Antioxidants in Desserts? According to Modern Baking magazine*, researchers recognize the positive role antioxidants play in combating oxidative stress-a phenomenon associated with the development of chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disease and coronary heart disease) and factors associated with aging (e.g., memory loss).
As the owner of a Patisserie and an avid dessert eater, I'm always looking for ways to use natural products, including fruits and nuts to enhance and flavor our desserts. Knowing that the ingredients we put in our desserts can really be good for us makes me feel good about eating and selling them to our customers.
Many recipes we use in making our desserts contain antioxidant rich fruits and nuts as listed below:
Blueberry Coffeecake~blueberries contain more antioxidants than any other fruit. Linzertorte~Contains both antioxidant rich blueberries and raspberries. Chocolate Rum Pecan Bars~ Packed full of antioxidant rich pecans. Caramel Apple Tart & Apple Crumb Pie~ Contains both antioxidant rich Granny Smith Apples and pecans. Tuxedo Strawberries~ Strawberries are another antioxidant rich fruit-covering them in chocolate, which also contains antioxidants, makes them even better! Cranberry Orange Bread (offered on our Holiday Dessert Menu)~Cranberries rank #3 on a list of the highest antioxidant filled fruits and nuts.
So, the next time you're hesitating about enjoying a decadent dessert from A Grande Finale Patisserie, remember that it could actually be good for you!
